IITK Foundation for Medical Research & Technology

The IITK Foundation for Medical Research & Technology (FMRT) was established to institutionalize and sustain IIT Kanpur's ambitions in transforming Indian healthcare. The Foundation operates the development and management of the Yadupati Singhania Super Specialty Hospital on the IIT Kanpur campus.

India faces a severe deficit in its healthcare infrastructure — insufficient ICU beds, wards, hospitals, nurses, doctors, technicians, and medical equipment. IIT Kanpur's long-standing biomedical research ecosystem, which had already demonstrated extraordinary impact during the COVID-19 pandemic, became the springboard for this transformative initiative.

Facilities are set to open in late 2026, making GSMST the first-of-its-kind medical school in India where innovation is led by the convergence of medical research and medical engineering.
